I’m getting the Win32 error message, usually about 10/20 minutes after turning my laptop on and using firefox.
I’m a novice with computers though so am a bit nervous about trying this solution – what is it that it actually does? Is there any danger of deleting critical files accidently or anything like that?

Try this:

Start => Run => Type netsh winsock reset then click ok. Restart your computer, it may not work.
