Google Talk Gadget is the a web messenger for Google Talk and is the best alternative in case you do not want to install the application on a local PC or want to access it through a public PC.
Google Brings Group Chat To Google Talk
GoogleOS reports that Google has added a new feature to Google Talk Gadget which is known as "Group Chat" or Conference Talk. I did not get hold of this story myself as I do use Gmail Chat instead of the Google Talk Gadget. The feature is only available for those users who use Google Talk Gadget so if you invite any of your Gmail contacts who are on Windows Google Talk or Gmail Chat version then they will be given a link to the web version of Google Talk.

Google Talk Gadget offers a good experience to those Gmail users who are obsessed with the web 2.0 culture and prefer to use online applications. I recommend everyone to give it a try and they will find it more useful than the Windows Google Talk Client.
