Yes! Finally! after all those years of wait and misery Orkut users have finally got the tools to beat the hell out of MySpace Freaks (Not really though!). The one thing that was lacking in Orkut from all this time was the ability to send and receive multimedia messages and this was one of the main factors why Orkut was lagging behind the great MySpace in terms of popularity.

Multimedia Scraps For Those Deperate Orkut Lovers

Officially it has been announced on the not-so-very-old Orkut Blog that it will be updating the whole Orkut system with a feature that will allow users to send and receive multimedia scraps. “Multimedia Scraps” was one of the most desperately awaited features of Orkut and finally it has come to reality. I guess no longer Orkut users have to rely on ASCII text and art to send rich text messages as they are being awarded with a full heck of new tools. But the question is that will the new features be as exciting as they seem or not? Here is an analysis

Multimedia Scrap Features in Orkut

Now that we know Orkut is introducing a multimedia scrap feature we also must know what the features will be really like. The Orkut Blog states that users will be able to add and share photos through scraps. They will even be able to share music and mp3 files along with html-embedded objects like slide shows etc and of course not to forget that users can share videos hosted on YouTube or Google Video. Here is how they will be able to share this stuff:

• Add images
  Copy and paste urls ending in .jpg, .gif, .png or .bmp and the image will appear in the scrap.
  for example, http://example.com/example.jpg

• Add videos from YouTube and Google Video
  Copy and paste the url and the video will appear in the scrap.
  for example, http://youtube.com/watch?v=videoid

• Add podcast/audio
  Copy and paste the url of an audio file and an audio player will appear in the scrap.
  for example, http://example.com/example.mp3

• Add html-embeddable objects
  Create or upload your content at sites such as photobucket.com, imageshack.com, rockyou.com or slide.com. Copy and paste the html embed code to share it with your friends.
