Unlock The Apple iPhone (Step by Step Guide)

unlock iphone

Since the release of the Apple iPhone many people and software vendors have claimed to unlock the iPhone but until now none of the claims have been justified. But this 17 year old genius hacker named George Hotz also codenamed GeoHot has successfully managed to carry out a full hardware unlock of the Apple iPhone and his method and procedure has been verified globally. In a video he confirmed and demonstrated that his unlocked iPhone is able to run on any network.

How To Unlock the Apple iPhone

This genius spent over 500 hours working and figuring out the hack and all thanks goes to him and his iPhone dev team that stood aside and assisted him in his great work. Once his own iPhone was unlocked and tested he conducted a live iPhone Hacking session at his blog Finding JTag on the iPhone. The procedure is about 2-3 hours long and requires soldering and software knowledge. Probably there will be a software unlock available soon on the Internet but till then I think you should stick to the step by step iPhone unlock guide made by GeoHot on his blog. Here it goes

  1. Remove the casing
  2. Desolder the battery
  3. Tricking the Chip
  4. Test the Soldering
  5. Power-up the iPhone
  6. Take a NOR Dump
  7. Erase the Modem Firmware
  8. Patch the Firmware
  9. Use the iUnlocker
  10. The Final Step

Salute to GeoHot :) Enjoy your unlocked iPhone and don’t forget to see this video where GeoHot shows the first unlocked iPhone and uses it with T-Mobile network.

This should be really useful for people who cannot get an iphone because of non availability. Some people here in India also claimed to have unlocked, but I dont think it will be a full unlock.

This is by far the full hardware unlock of the iPhone and I am so happy that it will make the iPhone free enough to be used with any network now :)

So guys go get an iPhone now but as for me lol I still prefer Nokia N95 over the iPhone :P

Here is an updated guide with a refined version of Geohot’s method: http://www.iphone-hacks.com/2007/09/01/iphone-unlocking-guide/

i contacted the people there and they told me the min i can order is 50 licenses!!

check n tell me

Peter Yes man I read that story and it is very true and valid.

You can order an unlock license if you don’t want to play with the hardware yourself :)

Peter

yea i wish i can order it … but the problem is you cant order one!! u have to order at least 50!!!! with a price of $36 per license :(

That is really sad :( but the good thing is that now they have official retailers around the globe so anyone can get their iPhone unlocked now by just paying a little fee.

Hey man I got the thing unlocked and my uncle is using it in Pakistan but the problem is that for some reason he only has receiving and not out going calls why do you think that is?

I am in USA so i cant really see what it could be so I am looking to get some ideas in as to what it could be!

From as far as I can assume the iPhone is not fully unlocked yet. The iPhone unlock softwares released yet do not confirm that the iPhone is bound to work with all GSM network and service providers so I guess there is a problem with the full iPhone phone feature unlock or perhaps the GSM network your uncle is using has some fault on its side.

By the way can I know which GSM service provider your uncle is using on his iPhone because I live in Pakistan too so I might be able to look further into the problem.
