Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta Features

Posted by Saad Hamid on November 22, 2007

Live Messenger 9People its time to rock and roll because various online reports indicate that beta invitations for the new Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta are being given out to Microsoft Connect users and Beta testers.

LiveSide was fast enough to grab the news and circulate it all over the Internet with some bits of the new Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta features.

Here are some of the (so far) confirmed features of the upcoming Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta.

  • Multiple Points Of Presence Suport – Now you can sign into Messenger v9 from several different locations and remain signed in, In v8.5 and under, signing in at a new pc will sign you out anywhere else.
  • Signature sounds – Make sound signatures instead of just graphical ones
  • Per contact sounds – chose a sound to associate with each of your contacts’ actions
  • Animated Display Pictures – now you can use animated .gif files as your display picture
  • Links in Status Message – Links in the status message are now clickable
  • SPIM reporting – report and block users who spam you via IM.

Thats one good set of some really new and cool features. I hope Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta makes it to the public as soon as possible or even if it does not who says we don’t have other ways to get it ;)

Disclaimer: Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta Features mentioned in this post are just for the purpose of information and awareness and may or may not be present in the actual version of Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta.

Informative new post!

What’s the use of Multiple Points Of Presence Suport? & Won’t it be a problem? like if someone knows you password he can sign in and chat with your Contacts and you wont even get to know?

Well the Multiple Points of Presence feature does look somewhat like a security loophole to me but I am sure the Windows Live Messenger developers have something good in mind for future.

Perhaps they are going to let users know how many Points of Presence they have at a given instant. This will alert the user if someone else is using his/her account at the same time.

The feature can be of great help indeed.

I’m currently testing Live Messenger 9, and I can confirm all of the above beta features, plus others which I’m not at liberty to mention at this time. Stay tuned!

Can anyone sign into the beta version or is it restricted to people who have been invited by Microsoft?

It is not at all restricted to Microsoft Beta testers only. You can download Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta from the link provided and it will work perfectly without any problems.

It is a brilliant program, I especially love the animated display picture but all other users must have WLM 9 to see the animated DP so I downgraded back to 8.5

Cant wait till it is officially released!
