How to Sign .SIS Files for your Mobile IMEI

symbian_os_logo.jpg SIS File is basically a Symbian OS Installer File which is used to install any application on your mobile phone. They generally have the extension .sis or .sisx and can be installed on any mobile phone that runs on the Symbian operating system.

Their function is analogous to the operation of Win 32 executable (.exe) in Windows Operating System.

Usually when a Symbian application is made, a request is sent to SymbianSigned.com to authenticate and verify the application before it is publicly distributed. However in cases where the application remains Unsigned, it has then to be signed manually to your mobile IMEI in order to make it work or else your mobile will fail to install the application triggering a Certificate Error Warning.

In this post I am going to share a simple tutorial originally taught by Symbianv3 that will teach you How to Sign .sis files. It is important to know how to sign .sis files because many of the upcoming great applications like IR Remote, NokMote, RotateMe etc are being distributed unsigned over the Internet.

Things you will need to sign .sis files

  1. Registered and activated account at SymbianSigned.com
  2. Your Mobile IMEI number (Enter *#06# on your mobile)
  3. GenialSis application

Get started

  1. Open GenialSis.exe and enter your IMEI number. Press Generate! and you shall see a popup dialog saying Completed.
    sign-1.gif
  2. Enter your SymbianSigned.com username and password in Step (2) and press Upload certificate.
    sign-2.gif
now you will see a notice like
    sign-3.gif
  3. Press OK and then select the genialcert.csr file in the GenialSis application folder.
    sign-4.gif
  4. Enter security code and then go to step (3)
  5. Click Open and select the .sis file you want to get signed and then click Sign.
    sign-5.gif

Thats it! Your unsigned application has now been signed can be used on your mobile.

Please can someone enlist the names of sites whose email addresses are allowed for registration on symbiansigned.com

Looks like, they accept .net email addresses as well. Just signed up with my work address.

Will check the application later and will update.

I have a @hotmail.com e-mail and I can’t create account on Symbian signed. Any solution about that?

Aniket

No. You can’t sign with public e-mails like Yahoo, Gmail, Rediff and stuff like that…You have to give a private email id which you can create with a domain…eg. namecheap.com (just visit the site to find exactly what they mean). You can even register with your work/company email address or your Internet Service Provider email eg. something@vsnl.net etc

Basically the thing is that you should have a mail id which not common. It should be private.

aido

I get the same error…too many applications in 24 hours. whats the deal here? do symbian not want people to use the apps?

Same prob here…exeeded number of certificates :S
Guess this little trick doesn’t work anymore?

Unfortunatly this software failed to satisfy our need, simply because it keeps on showing that I have exceeded my number of certificates allowed for production in 24 hrs even though I am still a fresh user

same problem as nokia n95 user

Plinio

Same as above, I have a valid user name/account at Symbiansigned and the first time I tried to use the Genial software the message is that I have exceeded the number of certificates allowed !
So it’s useless as the last 12 people had the same problem !
