iPod Touch is one brilliant piece of gadget from the iPhone family that has every feature of the iPhone except for the phone and camera.
I will be getting an iPod Touch soon (most probably in the coming week) so I was doing some research about installing different applications on my iPod Touch and luckily I found a bunch of tips and tricks and some hacks that might come in handy to other iPod Touch owners.
Plus I shall also be discussing in one of my coming posts that why buying an iPod Touch is ten times better than buying an unlocked iPhone.
Install iPhone apps on iPod Touch
The process is really simple and assumes that you have a jailbroken iPod Touch. Jailbroken iPod Touch have the ability to install 3rd party applications. If your iPod Touch is not jailbroken already, please wait for my post about how to jailbreak an iPod Touch that I would be publishing soon after this.
Now to get the iPhone apps on your iPod Touch, just follow these steps:
- Open install.app (installer application) from the home menu of your iPod Touch and tap “sources” on the bottom menu.
- Tap edit and then tap add.
- In the “Add Source” field type in http://repo.us.to “http://applerepo.com” or “http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml” and tap OK.
- Tap done and then tap refresh.
- Tap “Install” on the bottom menu of the Installer and scroll down with your finger until you see “iPhone 1.1.1 Apps for iPod Touch” and “iPhone 1.1.2 Apps for iPod Touch”. Tap the folder corresponding your iPod Touch firmware version.
- Once on the iPhone apps menu, Install the “Prep” packages before you install anything else. Once you’ve installed these then you can continue to install the rest of the iPhone apps onto your Touch.
- After you’ve installed all of the iPhone packages/apps, then press the home button on your iPod so that it can reboot.
Thats it! You now have your iPhone applications on your iPod Touch.
Update! The site has changed from “http://repo.us.to” to “http://applerepo.com”

“iPod Touch is one brilliant piece of gadget from the iPhone family that has every feature of the iPhone except for the phone and camera”
ROFL! now that’s a good sentence
what else was iPhone supposed to be other than being primarily a phone?
Probably you didn’t get my point.
What I wanted to say through that sentence was that its better for people to buy an iPod Touch than buying an unlocked or hacked iPhone.
I hope you got me now.
Alright thats much clear now.
Thanks…I am grateful. I have wanted forever to do this.
Hey, did it work for you guys?
I did the jailbreak thing just by going jailbreakme.com and install appsnap and thats it, and I can install apps and stuff
I want to know if its the right way to jailbreak?
I don’t have that Installer application on my iPod Touch; it’s less then a week old and it seems everything (such as the iPhone apps) begins from this installer application I do not have. I was wondering if you could enlighten me.
There isn’t a mail app for 1.1.1 but there is the prep. The other way is to transfer a copy from my computer which I have but I don’t know how to work winSCP.
Thanks for the great tutorial anyways.
1) iPod Touch does not have bluetooth that the iPhone has
2) iPhone has EDGE which the iPod Touch does not have either
By the way to get iPhone apps on your iPod Touch you need to hack/jailbreak your iPod Touch. To do this either go onto YouTube and type in jailbreak or more easily go to jailbreakme.com on your Safari Browser and scroll to the bottom and click install apps or something
You can’t do this anymore, the website doesn’t work! Please help!
I have followed all of the steps above i.e. gone into sources and added http://repo.us.to (several times) and the iPhone apps are not showing up in “install”. I did this a week ago with no problem, but had to exchange my device due to battery life problems.
Any ideas what is happening, could these apps have been “pulled”?
Alas! the repo site is down. Too much traffic. Haven’t found an alternative yet.
Website now has changed to applerepo.com not repo.us.to
How do you get the installer on the iTouch as my iTouch is a brand new one.
It says to tap install on the home of my iPod but i don’t have that application on my iPod Touch…am I suppose to download it or does it come with it?
Guys! repo.us.to has moved to applerepo.com
Its not showing up…but I have the source. Sound like a fool. what am I doing wrong?
Could any one help on getting safari set up on my iPod Touch. Please maby leave some links?
Hey you know how you said that the iPod Touch has everything but a phone and a camera…well I got a special phone app on mine iPod Touch so I can call people now.
Please share the app with us if you can
The mail app said that you should only download or install if you have an iPhone. Can you still install it with an ipod Touch?
The source does not work. This one does: http://allipodhax.3host.biz/index.xml I used it and I get not only the iPhone apps, but a whole bunch of other things.
Caution: when installer is loading, don’t exit out. You may think it is frozen, but its not
I would love to hear about that calling app for the iPod touch.
Brilliant post finally i can get mail app on my touch
thanks a mil
Hey guys I tried both sources: http://repo.us.to and http://applerepo.com but they don’t seem to work. Can any body please help me?
Dave, I’ve installed the allipodhax source but I don’t see the new packages, not in recent packages, not anywhere…You sure it’s working?
I cant seem to get the iPhone apps either from any of the sources mentioned above. Anyone know if there are any other sources that has them?
Hey I tried to Jailbreak my iPod Touch…and I clicked install apps on the bottom of the jailbreakme.com page and it just shows its stopped loading and is a blank page…can anyone help me please?
Same thing - I have tried all of them and none of them work - Help!
if you want to jailbreak you need FW 1.1.1 otherwise go to my website and see how to jailbreak other firmwares. My website is kingthias-downloads.wikispaces.com.
I hate to say it, but the repository is down indefinately. If you type in http://www.applerepo.com you can see what I mean.
Oh thats the reason? so it won’t work until its back up?
I’m looking for it all day and did’t want to believe that this is the hole problem
Found it at “http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml”
scroll down a bit till you see it.
Yup. Sad to say that there is no source for the Iphone apps. None that I could find. I suppose you could do it the old way and SSH them in, but that takes FOREVER and is a real PITA. Sorry to burst your bubble. You could use one of the 1.1.3 jailbreak methods. I think the source for the 1.1.3 apps are still up.
Thanks that helped a lot I have many other official sources too.
where could i find 1.1.1. iphone apps?
applerepo.com is down!
I am kinda of new sorry guys and I know most of you are sick of new ppl that dont know what their doing but nothing is working how do I get to 1.1.3 from 1.1.1?
Ok…i no what i am doing…you can only go to the website (www.jailbreakme.com) if u have firmware 1.1.1 if not you have to go to YouTube to do it. You can also downgrade to 1.1.1 because that is the easiest thing to do.
What are you talking about? SSHing them in takes 10 minutes, tops. Just SSH in, drag and drop the apps into Applications, and the frameworks and preference files. Simple.
I want to know if you can hack the iPod Touch to use it as an iPhone?
Chris, no. There’s no speaker or mic on the ipod touch to begin with. You can install iphone apps on the touch, but that’s it.
No you cant. Is there any new sources out for the 1.1.1 iPhone apps? http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml is the only one working but they dont seem to have the “prep” packages as mention in the tutorial. Help
It cant find the host now =/
My iPod touch is already jailbroken with firmware 1.1.1 but for some reason when I download something off of the installer it wont work. It will just close as its updating. I never used to have this problem. I cant even get any apps anymore as the installer app just shuts down. Usually, I would have to slide to unlock but now nothing works!
Please Help!
If you have a lot of applications try symlinking them with BossTool.
So with the new SDK that came out, should I not jailbreak my itouch and wait for 3rd party apps on the internet? Does anyone know where I can get some of these apps from SDK users so that I don’t have to jailbreak my new itouch?
Thanks!
You cant hack the iPod Touch to be used as a phone because the iPod doesn’t have a microphone.
what’s SHHing? and how can you drop the apps in Applications? I use a PC laptop, so how would that work?
It can’t find the host! …
i’ve the same problem as Mad Max…plz help!!!
gabrielle u r a fool. Not every app needs a mic
