One-Click Solutions to Block Ads in Firefox

warning-sign.gif While advertisements are something that keep publishers happy and healthy, they can be pretty annoying to users and readers.

Some sites are so highly populated with ads that it becomes almost impossible for the site visitors to read the content and they just leave the site at once. Mostly such sites load very slow and make it hard for the reader to get what he/she wants in as much as less time as possible.

There are two one-click solutions for Firefox users to get rid of all sorts of advertisements. Both of these solutions have their own merits and demerits:

Solution # 1: Disable Javascript

It is an observation that 99% of the annoying ads you see on websites are served through Javascripts so the easiest way to get rid of all the advertisements is to disable Javascript in your Firefox browser. This can easily be done.

  1. Open Tools menu
  2. Click on Options
  3. Select the Content tab
  4. Uncheck the box that says “Enable Javascript”
  5. Click Ok

This way you can potentially block almost 99% of the ads that you see on websites but this solution has one demerit i.e. you won’t be able to use websites which communicate through Javascript. However you can just enable Javascript anytime by following through how you first disabled it.

Solution # 2: Use AdBlock Plus Extension

The second and the very recommended solution is to use the AdBlock Plus Firefox extension. The extension has been a huge hit and has been included in the PC World Best Products of 2007 list.

Just go to AdBlock Plus website and install the extension and it will do the rest of the job for you.

Umm do you guys know the definition of “irony”?

lol Yes I certainly do know its meaning. The point is that I never claimed Sizlopedia to be ad-free. If you think that ads on Sizlopedia annoy you then you can simply subscribe to the RSS feeds instead.

The post was basically to help you with something. Compared to many sites out there, Sizlopedia does not have that much ads on it.

[laugh] I just thought it was funny — the tips were good, but gosh those ads are tough to look at. :)

By the way, the Nuke Anything Enhanced extension is also a great tool for removing annoying ads.

(And yes, I clicked on yours. :)

No script (to disable JS) is really great extension for Firefox. But some time bad because disabling all JS causes errors in some sites.
