Use your iPhone or iPod Touch as Wireless Touchpad

The iPhone never fails to amaze us with its cool applications and usability. One such new application for the iPhone and iPod Touch has just emerged recently which will blow your mind away.

TouchPad is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch devices which enables you to use your iPhone (or iPod Touch) as a Wireless Touchpad. You can control the mouse on your PC using just your iPhone. You can move the mouse around, click, double-click, and even drag (double click but keep it pressed and then move around).

It works just exactly as a TouchPad on a laptop. The multi-touch surface of the iPhone acts as the virtual TouchPad and you can control anything on your PC ranging from documents, folders, movies, videos, presentations or just anything at all. The only downside is that your iPhone or iPod Touch must be connected to Internet while using the application.

Here is a video demonstrating how the application actually works. I must admit that it is a very very amazing application. I just tested it on my iPod Touch and it has really impressed me a lot.

Installation instructions

You will first of all need a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch with Installer.app on it.

  1. Start Installer.app, and go to Sources. Click “Edit”, and then Add this repository: http://cnp.qlnk.net/
  2. After the refresh, install Touchpad from the Utilities category.
  3. Install TightVNC on the machine you want to control.

If you are using a Wireless router to connect your iPhone/iPod Touch to Internet, you will need to know about Port Forwarding which is required to use this application. By default you need to open ports 5900 and 5800 unless otherwise.
