Google wants a new Favicon! Help them

Almost a week ago, Google changed its official Favicon replacing the old boxed capital ‘G’ with a small blue ‘g’. It raised a lot questions as the whole world has been seeing the old Favicon for almost 9 years and such a sudden change was not acceptable without any reason.

Yesterday, Google revealed on its official blog that the new change was in accordance to develop a set of icons that would scale better to some new platforms like the iPhone etc.

Google has announced that the current set of Google Favicons you see in the above picture are by no means the final ones and there are still more variations to come. Designers at Google tried over 300 unique permutations of Google Favicons some of which you can see below:

Google is even accepting ideas and notions about Google Favicon from users. Make sure you fulfil the following requirements and submit your best idea to Google Favicon Ideas:

  • resolution: 16 pixel x 16 pixel image
  • format: .png, .gif, or .ico
  • size: 5 KB
  • transparency: 32 bit alpha transparency

Who knows! your idea may be the one that people see billions of times per day.
