Some days ago the first alpha version of the upcoming version of Ubuntu i.e. Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex was announced by Canonical.

Softpedia has got some good screens of this new version some of which I would like to share with all Linux lovers.

Technically we won’t be getting many new features in Ubuntu 8.10 except for a whole new UI redesign, a new Kernel, Firefox 3.0 final and some other software updates.

One thing I am sure of is that Ubuntu 8.10 will probably get a new wallpaper as Ibex is a mountain goat while the wallpaper you see in the screenshots above shows a Heron which is for Ubuntu 8.04.
