notepaddiary Here is a simple trick to turn your simple notepad application into a digital everyday diary if you are an Internet savvy.

Notepad is used for various purposes and is a basic application used in creating a html designed file. But many users don’t know that it can also be used a digital diary for maintaining time schedules or other activities.

Here are the simple steps to use the Windows Notepad as a simple digital diary.

  1. Just open the Notepad and type .LOG and press enter.
  2. Now save the Notepad file with ay name of your choice.
  3. After saving it, Close the Notepad and open it again.

Surprisingly you can see the current date and time being inserted automatically
after the .LOG line.

Sidharth, thats a nice trick, better than using an extra software.

I’ve been using it for quite a long time.
Nifty feature :)

And we use it on our school computer too.
Whenever we get in the labs, we’ll write a note on that day and we’ve implemented this LOG technique to it.

Hi

Re: Using NotePad as a log file with time and date.

This really is a cool trick, as far as it goes. I have been using a business work-log in Notepad for several years and I had been using the F5 key to add the time & date. Here is a way to have it happen automatically each time I open the file. Well almost. . .

The problem is that it doesn’t work past a certain file size. My current work-log file is only 107 KB in size but when I added the .LOG line and reopened it I get a message that there is not enough memory. I did some experimenting and found that with a new file I can add up to about 30 KB total before the message appears.

Any comments?
