As the launch of the next version of the biggest community-supported Linux flavor ie Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex approaches closer, users and developers are beginning to wonder whats in store for them in 2009. Today Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Ubuntu, announched that Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope will be taking over the throne of Ubuntu legacy after Intrepid Ibex. Idag Mark Shuttleworth, grundare av Ubuntu, announched att Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope kommer att ta över tronen i Ubuntu arv efter Intrepid Ibex.

As we all know, Ubuntu builds are named after animals therefore Jaunty fails to make an exception. Som vi alla vet bygger Ubuntu är uppkallade efter djur därför Jaunty underlåter att göra ett undantag. If studied closely, the Ubuntu nomenclature in itself is a very interesting subject. Om studeras närmare, är Ubuntu nomenklaturen i sig ett mycket intressant ämne.

Ubuntu 9.04 would focus on improving boot time, overall OS performance and most importanly web applications. Ubuntu 9.04 skulle fokusera på att förbättra uppstart, övergripande OS prestanda och mest importanly webbapplikationer. Windows and Mac have already blurred the line between desktop and web applications and now perhaps its time for Linux to be a part of the show. Windows och Mac har redan suddat ut gränsen mellan skrivbordet och webbapplikationer och nu kanske är det dags för Linux att vara en del av showen.

According to a statement by Mark recently, Ubuntu would surpass Mac OS in the coming years and it seems that Jaunty is the first step towards this revolution. Enligt ett uttalande från Mark nyligen skulle Ubuntu överträffa Mac OS under de närmaste åren och det verkar som Jaunty är det första steget mot denna revolution.

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope is set to release somewhere in April 2009. Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope är satt att släppa någonstans i april 2009. Till then, look forward to the release of Intrepid Ibex as it will be bringing a whole set of new features and improvements to the Linux community. Först då, ser fram emot frisläppandet av Intrepid Ibex som det kommer att väcka en hel rad nya funktioner och förbättringar till Linux.

    I'm definitely looking forward to an improvement in boot speed. Jag är definitivt ser fram emot en förbättring i stöveln hastighet.

    I'm dual-booting Kubuntu 8.04 with XP right now and rather disappointed that XP boots much faster. Jag är dubbel-uppstart Kubuntu 8.04 med XP just nu och ganska besviken över att XP startar upp mycket snabbare.

    9.04 is Jaunty....not 9.10 (which is referenced several times) 9,04 är Jaunty .... inte 9,10 (som refereras flera gånger)

    The day our desktops completely become fullscreen web browsers, I'll have to decide between not touching a computer again, sticking to the currently-available software and never upgrading again, or suicide.     I'm all for the speed features... Jag är allt för snabbt dragen ... but web applications? men webbapplikationer? One of the reasons why Windows and Mac OS X are so much slower than Linux is because they seem to think web apps make good apps. En av anledningarna till Windows och Mac OS X är så mycket långsammare än Linux är att de verkar tro webbprogram göra bra apps. In my opinion, I'd rather Ubuntu never gets this feature. Enligt min åsikt, jag vill hellre Ubuntu blir aldrig den här funktionen. If it's going to be as badly implemented as web applications usually are, I think I might finally switch to Slackware. Om det kommer att bli så illa genomföras som webbapplikationer vanligtvis är, jag tror att jag äntligen kan byta till Slackware.
