iPhone Based on Windows Mobile! Coming for Real?

Remember once we posted about an iPhone clone powered by Windows Mobile? Sources say that one such version of the iPhone may soon be coming to life officially supported by Apple.

It definitely sounds strange but as Engadget reports, Apple may be developing a new iPhone for Verizon Wireless, that runs on CDMA and based on Windows Mobile. Along with that, they also supplied a photoshop mock up of Windows Mobile 6 home screen on an iPhone.

Their unnamed source claims that the company would officially announce the phone next year, and it would probably be in time for Windows Mobile 7. They did not quote an exact source yet but claimed that the rumors are coming in strong today.

The news may have some weight to it as Apple initially wanted to release iPhone on the Verizon Wireless network but the deal didn’t work out. Its also worthy to note that CDMA is still a popular technology in North America even though its technically old now.

It is very unlikely however, that Apple would base the device on its arch nemesis’ upcoming platform, Windows Mobile 7. Though the rumors are very much fake, but this season, every rumor seems to be coming true.

I just can’t see this happening. Apple has skirted the law just to keep their hardware and software tied together. on the other hand, they do provide the option to run windows on the macs now. I think they only did that to pick up people who were unwilling to switch without a backup.
