Understanding the Risks involved

Windows 7 Beta may prove to be better in stability as compared to other Windows 7 builds but it shall not be overlooked that it is still a Beta and frequent errors and bugs should be welcomed with open arms.

Before you burn Windows 7 beta to a DVD and plan to install it, read the following list of risks involved.

  • Its a Beta, so errors and problems should arise frequently.
  • Microsoft won't provide any technical support for the Beta.
  • User experience may vary from Beta to the final release.
  • Software may or may not run and for no given reason.
  • Hardware may not work at all or may work with reduced functionality.
  • Data loss may occur which can involve files getting corrupt.
  • Networking across multiple computers may or may not be possible.

Now that you are done understanding the risks involved, lets head on to the Do's and Don'ts.

Do's and Don'ts

Here are things that you should Do.

  • Do keep a backup of the data, always.
  • Do install on a separate dedicated PC (which you use for testing or troubleshooting).
  • Do update the installation at frequent intervals using Microsoft update.

As for the Don'ts.

  • Don't install the beta if you are incapable of troubleshooting the problems you encounter.
  • Don't install the beta on your home/office PC or use it as a primary OS.

So you are all done understanding the risks involved and keeping an eye on the Do's and Don'ts as well, its time to get to the final deal of installing Windows 7 beta on your PC.

Installing Windows 7 Beta

We assume that you would have already downloaded the ISO using the download links provided by us along with the activation key.

Now to burn the ISO to a DVD, use a DVD burning software such as Totally Free Burner and insert the DVD in the ROM to get started with the installation.

Note that you are only able to upgrade to Windows 7 beta if you are currently running the Windows Vista OS with SP1, this will preserve all data and will upgrade to the same language. However in case of a clean install, all data previously on the drive will be destroyed.

Windows 7 beta is set to expire on August 1, 2009 so be ready to install a prior version of Windows after that.

  • Great work buddy...must say...you get the right number of hits
