Leaked photos of the next generation iPhone?

Later yesterday we published a report on A new generation iPhone, highlighting some of the limitations in the current iPhone OS and hardware and providing a list of suggested features for an upcoming version of the iPhone.

As we discussed that a new generation iPhone may already be in the works at Apple, a recent wave of rumors is definitely here to support us in this case.

Macrumors has been tipped off with some images of a new iPhone which looks to be the next generation iPhone.

As you can see above, this casing for the supposedly new iPhone is much different to what we have seen in the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G. The new case-back is said to be made out of metal and is also said to be textured to provide a better grip for the user.

Even though the images come from a source in China, the leaked images look quite real and who knows, this might actually be a real casing for the upcomign iPhone.

Please share with us in the comments whether you find these images authentic or not?

  • Apart from the design, is there any change in the software and feature list?
  • Who needs grip on iPhone, iPhone is always in a Handle with care category. If some one is trying to use iPhone in a hurry, nothing will happen on screen... try dialing a number, or unlocking the iPhone with some speed... Two things may happen

    1. Software can become panic
    2. Never respond to fast user interactions.

If you want to make an emergency call or SOS, it will not work on iPhone, that is the only thing I hate with iPhone, and the Plastic thing in current 3G thing.

    iPhone is best always
  • Obviously, this is just a silicone skin or something. The camera doesn't even peek through the hole.. come on people..
  • May be this is some iPhone casing but who knows.

The iPhone is manufactured in China. We know the 3rd gen iPhone should be released sometime this June. I have worked in the wireless industry for quite some time, and at this point Apple has to be running test engineering versions of the devices, and they are probably putting these together in their shop in China... sooooo, decent chance we have a legit source.

Oh, and to respond to Mark. I have a friend who worked as a developer on the first iPhone. There is no way that anyone who does anything more than fabricate parts is going to leak any photos like this. Apple is very, very tight lipped on these things. This is most likely the back plating piece for the new iPhone.
