How to Activate the iPhone 3.0 beta firmware?

Although the iPhone 3.0 beta firmware doesn't quite neccessarily require you to activate it but if you want to use it on a device without any problems, we recommend you to follow the procedure.

Activating the iPhone 3.0 firmware for your iPhone or iPod Touch is equivalent to getting the UDID of your device registered in the iPhone developer program so you are legally able to test the new firmware on your device without any syncing problems with iTunes.

How to get the UDID registered?

One way is to simply pay $100 and enroll yourself into the iPhone developer program but perhaps this solution is just too expensive and useless when you are not a developer yourself. So just do the following.

Connect your device (iPhone or iPod Touch) to the computer.
Open iTunes and click on the Summary for the device.
Hover the mouse over to where it says 'Serial Number' and click on it to make it toggle into UDID.
Note the UDID carefully.
Head over to this page to purchase a registration of the UDID for just $5.

Unfortunately! there is no other way of bypassing this.

iPod Touch users have the liberty to even not purchase the UDID registration but in that case, they won't be able to Sync with iTunes. Once UDID registration has been purchased, follow our article on how to upgrade to iPhone 3.0 beta and you should be good to go.

Note: The procedure to download and activate the iPhone 4.0 Firmware is now live and working.

A simple bybass is that you just disconnect your computer from the internet and then sync your iphone/ipod touch and that will do the trick but you will have to do this whenever you are going to sync your iphone/ipod touch.

It took 2 hours to get mine registered. After which it was really simple, just connected my phone and Re-synced all my data and i was good to go. Give it about 2 hours max, sometimes there is no one online to do it. Good people !

Does this actually open MMS also for ATT? Because I figured this setting has to be active on the ATT side, and since 3.0 isnt officially launched yet, I would think the servers are not set for MMS yet. can someone confirm or deny this with ATT?

They are stating “Your UDID will be added almost straight away as there is someone online all the time” on their website but i haven’t heard anything from them in now almost two days?!

They should either adjust what is said on their webpage or keep their promise, might not be a lot money but it is money so I would like to get what i paid for!

This guy is a scam! If you register an UDID it is instant. I know, because I have a dev account.

I was trying to save $100 but it looks like this guy just takes people money. I am not worried since my transaction was subject to a seller charge back. PayPal will refund my payment after a period of time. At this point I don’t need his activation.

If you run this site with the listing the refering link, I would suggest removing the link to prevent others from falling victim to this.

The other thing to point out is he most likely has 99 seats he can authorize and once he has used them up he cannot add more.

As you can see by reading some of the comments above that the developer did activate the UDID for some of the early users so I think I am not the one at fault here to recommend him.

It is probably that is was out on weekend and may respond when he comes back.

Just to follow up. I paid at 10 am my time on Friday and received notification that I was added about 12 hours later. I was able to get my phone up and running shortely thereafter.

Lesson learned. I should have read all of the comments before paying with the expectation of being added immediately.

And just so you know, the beta has been very buggy so far. Lots of freezes and getting kicked out of apps but overall, looking forward to the new release.
