The whole firmware IPSW comes in parts so you will need to use WinRar (for Windows) and UnRarX (for Mac) to automatically combine and extract the file for your device. Make use of our List of Rapidshare Premium Generators to bypass download restrictions by Rapidshare.com.

Procedures to Install the iPhone 3.0 firmware and Activate it are also available on this blog.

P.S. Good luck to those desperate bloggers who don’t even own an iPhone but would now start copying most part of this article. Losers!

You dont have to pay for winrar… Just use the free version. If that does not work try winace. It will open winrar files.

Upon extraction using WinRAR, the file had a DMG file extension. Doesn’t an iPhone Software firmware end with .ipsw? If you have any additional information on how to properly use WinRAR–which is a shareware, by the way–to automatically combine all 3 parts and extract to one file, it would be nice if you can share it as well. Thanks!

Okay, so I have the filed downloaded? I’m such a noob. I tried to combine the rar files and I get a .dmg file. How do I go from the 3 rar files to a single IPSW file?

Hmmmm me too…

I renamed the dmg file to a ipsw file but iTunes rejected it.

I’m guessing this isn’t the same as the iPhone 3.0 Beta 1 file.

Same problem…please let me know if you receive an answer! Also, the contact for the $5 UDID registration is no longer accepting requests. Anyone else???

Found another developer to place my UDID with…also, the .dmg file is a MAC file…use PowerISO to extract IPSW file on PC

I had the same problem. After some investigation I found that this .dmg file will only work for Macs. For Windows you will need to convert this dmg file to ipsw format. There is a program called TransMac which will convert to ipsw. It is available at download.com at the following this link.

It is free to use for first 15 days. It worked for me and I am now running beta 2 on my 2G iPod Touch.

@Gil – winrar is a free archiving tool – You can download it from http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm . So basically you don’t pay anything for it :)

Alright here is the solution to convert the .dmg file to a .ipsw.

- Download the trial version of powerISO, do a search for it on google.
- Convert the .dmg file.
- Extract it to a location of you’re choice and you will see the .ipsw file.
- Go to iTunes and do the usual upgrade process.

Hope that helps. Finally figured it out and it’s 3.50 in the morning for me..

It helps for sure but can someone please post the entire IPSW next time the way it was posted for the initial beta release? It is complicated adding the 3 different parts. Anyone know how many releases before the initial public release? I noticed this 2nd version is much cleaner than the first beta.
