Get organized search results with Google Squared

Last month, a new computational knowledge search engine by the name of Wolfram Alpha was launched which aims to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable
by anyone.

It might have not posed as a direct competitor to Google but the launch of a new service by Google Labs tells me that Google sure feels threatened by what Wolfram Alpha can do and is planning to do the same with a new technology layer built on top of its existing search algorithm known as Google Squared.

In short, Google Squared is nothing but an experimental search tool that collects facts from the web and presents them in an organized collection, similar to a spreadsheet.

So if you make a query about a particular subject, say 'Cities of Pakistan', Google Squared will draw facts in terms of names, images, data, description, attributes etc and will present them into columns which is much more organized and easy to understand than the traditional line-by-line search results with links.

The purpose of Google Squared is to help users in gathering facts through the Internet for a particular subject and present them in a meaningful manner. Wolfram Alpha, on the other hand, does the same but is targeted more towards users who want data on a subject through a scientific point of view.

Now coming to the unique part of it, Google Squared also allows the user to add or remove Squared columns and also suggests some to help the user. The technology is nowhere near perfect but with the passage of time, it will definitely help the users in making the most out of their time.

Go give it a try. 'Action movies' is a nice query to start with.

Google Squared appears to be similar to my patent application:

Frankly, I am getting a Déjà vu effect while going through the “Google Squared” application because it appears to be very similar in function to my United States patent application which was filed on April 12, 2007 and as publicly disclosed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on October 16, 2008, when the patent application was published.

My patent application is titled as “Method And System For Research Using Computer Based Simultaneous Comparison And Contrasting Of A Multiplicity Of Subjects Having Specific Attributes Within Specific Contexts” bearing Document Number “20080256023” and Inventor name “Nair Satheesh” which may be viewed at http://patft.uspto.gov/ upon Patent Applications: Quick Search.

Google Squared appears to be using at least some if not many of the same methods and systems as set forth by me more than two years ago in my patent application. In fact there are many more methods and systems disclosed in my patent application which I believe will help resolve certain inaccuracies found in current Google Squared application.

I have issued legal notices to Google through my Patent Attorney in the US but Google has not responded yet to any of my notices.
  • Wolfram Alpha. Worst name ever. It's not catchy enough. And I consistently keep thinking that I've spelt the name wrong, even though I haven't!
