Unlock the OS firmware 3.0 on iPhone 2G

unlocked-iphoneAt last, after a two day wait, the iPhone Dev Team has finally managed to crack open the iPhone firmware 3.0 and has now released the Pwnage Tool to Jailbreak and Unlock the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Sadly, iPhone 3G users will still have to wait till Ultrasnow is pushed to the Cydia repo so until now only iPhone 2G users will be able to Jailbreak and Unlock their device on the iPhone firmware 3.0. Also the Pwnage Tool can be used by 1st Gen iPod Touch to Jailbreak the device.

The Unlock process for users with iPhone 2G running on iPhone firmware 3.0 is as below:

  1. Download the PwnageTool 3.0 (Direct | Torrent)
  2. Make sure to download bl39.bin and bl46.bin
  3. Grab the firmware 3.0 for iPhone 2G from our page.
  4. Run the PwnageTool and follow the steps on the software.
  5. Once the custom firmware is made, enter DFU mode and restore the firmware.

Note: To enter DFU mode, watch this tutorial. Also while clicking the restore button, hold 'Shift' in Windows and 'Option' in Mac to browse to the custom firmware file.

Unfortunately the PwnageTool does not work for Windows users so just make use of the following custom and unlocked firmware 3.0 files for iPhone 2G.

  1. Download the Custom/Unlocked firmware 3.0 files above.
  2. Combine the files with HJSplit (for Windows) and Split&Concact (for Mac).
  3. Now you will have on file named iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Custom_Restore.ipsw
  4. Simply boot into DFU mode and restore the Custom/Unlocked firmware 3.0.

There you go! easy unlock for the iPhone 2G. Now we also provide an alternative to Unlock the Firmware 3.0 on iPhone 2G with Redsnow.

    Hi

    As I tried to enter DFU mode when connected to the PC, my jailbroken and unlocked v2.0 iphone (2G) caused a msg to pop up in Itunes 8 which said it required Itunes to Check for software updates for the device? I clicked cancel and I could not proceed any further?

    Just checking if it is safe to click Check and proceed? If this locks my Iphone, am I still able to restore it using the Windows method above?

    This does not work!

    I clicked OK to the msg, and following the itunes update check (in DFU mode), the check completed allowing me to hold shift and click restore and proceed with the update. The firware checked itself and as it was preparing the Iphone the update failed to restore. My phone is still working thankfully!

    Pretty cool guide, I’m new Mac user and I didn’t know how to restore the iPhone, because I was using “Shift”, but now I know I must use “Option”, Thanks!

    I bought my iphone in the US, and have now moved to Canada. I was hoping I could unlock my AT&T phone, and then use a Rogers Sim Card in it, but after successfully unlocking my iphone, I cannot use the Rogers Sim Card in it. What am I missing?

    what u mean combine files with HJSplit? its says the firmware file is not compatible. how could u say Combine? it split one file to 66 files! or at least show me how to combine it!
