Worked like a charm. Used the 'Update + Shift' option and updated to 3.0 software. After reboot, itunes prompted and loaded the 3.1.2 update immediately. No $$$$ BS apple charges.

Looking forward to a free 4.0 upgrade…

On Step 3, If you press shift while clicking “update” instead of “restore”, you will update the the firmware AND keep all your apps, movies, videos, music on your iPod Touch.

What about any verification because when you are about to restore the iPod touch a box pops up as “Do you want to restore and verify the restore” Y/N

Fuck men! I don't know if I made anything incorrect, but for me, the part 2 is not correct...I have 3 errors in this files so...I'm don't able to extract this part.:(

It's really frustrating with the time I spend on this!!!

I downloaded the 3 files.
I downloaded winrar
I downloaded HJsplit

Nobody on this blog can explain cleary what to do really, it's bad!

So, after download of three part I tried to mixt them with HJsplit ...this program did't find my three part....they was in on file but when I use HJsplit to search and mixt them they was not there.

So with this defeat I tried to extract saparely the 3 files and the second did't work because three fucking errors

So if you have any solution tks to response.
Or suggest me another blog who explain how to have this firmware
I searched since long time and I never find
So complicated or expired!!!

i got all of the files into one but its not .ipsw its a rar how do i change that

unpack the rar files, put them in a folder, any one will do as long as they're together. rename the extensions, in order of the parts, .001, .002, and .003, then using the join function, select the 001 file, and Hj will do the rest. I just did mine and it worked perfectly, thank you very much (note: I did buy the upgrade from apple, but their downloading was atrocious, couldn't get it even though I paid for it, so this was a great alternative. thanks again.)

When I downloaded the 2g files, they were downloaded as rar. files, and the HJ split can't detect them. What to do?

dude, can someone please help.
i did all the steps. i got all the files into one file. its an .ispw file.
and i go to shift restore. select the file and it says “the ipod cannot be restored because the firmwire file is not compatible”
its really frustrating, can someone tell me what to do please..
