i have an iphone 3g and i get up to step 8 and it says “the iphone “iphone” could not be restored because the firmware in not compatable” please someone help

I am in the same boat with Pankaj. I have 3G with 3.1 and 5.11.07 modem firmware. From what I have read this iphone can't be unlocked. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Hello people
My boss has updated his Iphone 3gs (got it from china, unlocked..was on 3.01) via Itunes to the latest 3.1 n now its asking me to activate the sim (lost the jailbreak), which is not happening n i cant even go to the home screen.Can i follow the above mentioned procedure to make his Iphone work.
PLZ SOME ONE RECTIFY.

TUAW.com confirmed that if you have updated to 3.1 via iTunes, this tool WILL NOT work. I have to wait until a new redsn0w comes out.
