iPhone OS 4.0 to Launch this January?

There is already enough evidence on the web to believe that iPhone OS 4.0 is on it’s way. First, we have the less-convincing report by BGR which claims to have discovered iPhone OS 4.0 in it’s server logs, and second an iPhone developer seemed to have noted a single instance of iPhone OS 4.0 being used in their app analytics.

And a recent e-mail sent by a “prominent app developer” to the editor of iPhone Atlas at CNet proves that iPhone OS 4.0 is imminent. Perhaps! that’s why Apple has put a hold to the iPhone OS updates?

This is not unusual since even the last time when iPhone OS 3.0 was nearing it’s launch, Apple seemed to have provided a special treatment to prominent app developers by allowing them to use the OS a couple of months before it was officially unveiled infront of the public.

Another rumor that provides a possible explanation for the hold on iPhone OS updates by Apple says that the new Apple Tablet will probably share it’s core OS with the iPhone, hence Apple wants release both of it together to avoid dropping any obvious hints.

The new iPhone OS 4.0 also seem to an integrated “simulator” to allow developers to tests their apps with higher screen resolution (Probably for the Tablet?). Guess we still have January 27th to find out.
