The HP Slate unveiled by Steve Ballmer during his CES keynote a couple of weeks ago made quite a buzz, not only because it was an innovative product but more because HP managed to beat Apple to it.

Here we have a special video-report about the HP Slate where Phil McKinney, CTO of HP’s Personal Systems Group, discusses a little more about the HP Slate in detail.
According to Phil the HP Slate project started around 5 years ago and has finally developed enough to be released as a consumer product. Also, he claims that 2010 can be labeled as the year of the tablet due to the “convergence of low cost, low powered processors” and Windows 7 which is a touch-aware OS.
No details about the hardware, pricing or the availability of the device although it is expected that the device will be launched later this year. On the other hand, let’s hope Apple has something better to offer at their Jan. 27 event. [Thanks Neowin]
