Silverlight, Microsoft’s take on Adobe Flash is set to go mobile soon. It looks like Microsoft is finally ready to release the Beta code on 14th March 2010.

It’s been a couple of years since Microsoft and Nokia announced that they have plans of launching Silverlight for Nokia phones running the symbian operating system, originally intended to be in place before the end of 2008. These plans only briefly came to fruition last week when the beta code made it to the Microsoft website before being quickly removed.

Although Silverlight has never really gained the popularity enjoyed by Adobe Flash, however now by appealing to mobile sites Microsoft is now nipping at the heels of Adobe, and hope to claw some of the market share in mobile web applications in what could now promises to become a two horse race.

ZDNet reports,

The installable executable file enables users to run Silverlight applications on the Nokia S60 5th Edition platform. The executable file includes the Silverlight runtime for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices, the Silverlight runtime for Nokia S60 5th Edition emulator, sample applications, and developer documentation

Next week kicks off MIX 10, the annual MIX Web Developer Conference where it is expected that the announcements will be made for a version of Silverlight on Googles Andriod operating system as well.
