While Apple's iPad has hit the market with millions of units sold worldwide, some analysts eye HP's Slate as a much better option compared to the iPad. Apple does know how to get things rocking as the teaser and a preview of the tablet by Steve Jobs displaying a live intro, did do wonders. The iPad witnessed tremendous online orders as the superior device featured some of the great apps and features. Here we bring our readers with the comparison of of HP's Slate and Apple's iPad.

One of the biggest disadvantage for the HP Slate would be, no previous market existence or relation to any device. While Apple's iPad enjoys the brand image from the already successful devices such as the iPod and iPhone, which makes users confident while making a choice. But one thing to be noted is that, HP Slate would be featuring better and stronger features which may make it a tough rival.

While the iPad is dependent on Apple's own Operating System, the Mac OS X, HP Slate is being powered by Microsoft with the induction of Windows OS. A close source confirms that HP Slate would feature the Windows 7 OS which has the superb touch feature along with faster processing speed. One thing to be noted is that Windows 7 is NOT an Operating system developed for touch devices. We might witness some problems at HP's end in powering the tablet.

Apple's iPad is powered by an A4 chipset with a processing speed of 1GHz delivering quality graphics. The HP Slate is based on Intel Atom Core 2 Processor, which many of you have already used on notebooks. Apple is far ahead on the grounds of processing and graphics compared to HP's device.

The display screen is slightly bigger than the iPad compare with Slate. The HP Slate features a 10 inch screen display while the iPad delivers a 9.7 inch large screen display. Both the devices offer touch screen feature and we think such a small difference won't hurt.

HP Slate features support for the Adobe Flash file format which may be one good point for the HP product to add point no.2 in its bank. iPad does have great multimedia capabilities and is on the run even without Adobe.

  • Another feature which the iPad lacks is the Webcam support. HP Slate features a built in webcam or video camera which supports video chatting and gains another point in the tablet race.
  • Both the touch tablets feature a virtual built-in keyboard but Apple has provisioned for a keyboard dock which offers and optional attachment which allows user to attach a standard PC Keyboard to be connected to the gadget.
  • The biggest gap which many may notice is the multitasking feature. You can listen to music while working on the Slate while the Apple iPad users lack this feature and can simply sit noticing HP Slate much better on the multitasking end. Another great point for the device.
  • No support for the USB is present in Apple' iPad which makes the HP device stronger and powerful. HP Slate brings in a standard 2.0 USB Port which offers room for expansion.

Apple's iPad would only be featuring the support for Safari browser whereas the HP Slate would support most browsers. Even though the product is powered by Microsoft, there are no limitations of sticking to the browser choice. So users can appoint whatever they find better and easier to use.

Comparing both on the price war, Apple is surely done wonders for the users. The company has always brought forward the best possible price with the iPad standard 16GB model at an entry price of $499. While what we have heard is that HP is bringing in the device at somewhere around $549, which is still under discussion by the authorities.

Apple's iPad is stronger on the battery life compared to HP Slate. Apple has always delivered its promise and seems like this time also the company has been successful in delivery that. The devices is capable of delivering 10 hours of battery life consuming lesser energy on the processing.

The HP Slate would not be offering support for third-party applications on its device, while Apple even before the launch has been successful in gathering the developers for offering applications.

your article is not credible from the beginning and gets worse and worse as it goes. The iPad is not powered by OSX it is powered by the iPhone OS 3. Only half a million units of the iPad have been shipped, not millions shipped or sold. You also taint your article at the beginning by saying “apple's superior device”. Where do you get your facts?

I'm sick of this continued uninformed nonsense that you can't listen to music on iphones or ipads when working…this is wrong ! You can also talk while doing something else…stuff you can't do on CDMA based networks using Android phones…. Apple's own program have been multitasking all the time it's all about the “other” apps….in any case, the article is horrible….

This article could have done with an edit. A couple of examples:
    *their* are no limitations
no limitations of sticking to the browser choice (??)
    *more* stronger
    pple iPad users *lag*this feature

“The HP Slate would not be offering support for third-party applications on its device, while Apple even before the launch has been successful in gathering the developers for offering applications.”

What are you talking about the Slate would be compatible to all computer software running in windows 7, and I heard rummors about a linux based system as well. Why would you need support form HP with 3rd party software. Would you rather have all your apps installed via itunes. “you can have a level on you IPad, sweet meanwhile I be edited my flashed based website and finishing my homework using programs like openoffice or microsoft office 2007. I can edit my photos with GIMP, I can play my old school nes games. I can plug in my external dvd player and backup my software on my thumb drive, because I am going to have a USB port. All without the support of HP for my 3rd party software.

Not to mention that the IPad really is nothing more than an oversized IPod Touch or Giant IPhone, without the phone. It is not a tablet pc or notebook. Its features are very limited and it does not support several internet plugins. Now I do like my IPod Touch ( I won it from a raffle drawing at work, nice. ) but I do not require it to be supersized. For me there is not purposed for this I honestly can see who would realistically used somthing like this, or for what.
