HTC – No Android Tablet Planned for near Future

Posted by Saad Hamid on July 11, 2010

HTC has launched some of the most successful Android devices in the market and since every other company seems to be creating an iPad rival these days, one would expect HTC to do same. However, a recent announcement from the company brings an uninvited surprise for all of us.

It was confirmed by HTC recently that it has no plans to produce an Android based slate device in the near future or any tablet device at all for that matter. Here is a word from Eric Lin, the Global PR and online community manager for HTC.

We are always looking at it, but, right now, the whole idea is that in order to be successful with a tablet, you need to have something compelling. And not just a compelling form factor. You need to find that compelling use, that compelling story, that one compelling feature. And we are not going to do anything until we have found that.

HTC makes a valid point here. Following the hype of the iPad, every tech company is on to make an iPad rival but none have done it right so far.

First it was the HP Slate, which was slashed and replaced with the HP Hurricane and the next thing we know there seems to be a tablet-rain everywhere – Sony, Blackberry, BT, Kno, Toshiba, ASUS are some of them. Perhaps HTC wants to strike when everyone else in the market has failed.
