An Apple TV refresh is long due. The device which only lets users watch movies/videos on a TV was an early flop when it was launched back in 2007 but this year, the new Apple TV will hopefully come out as something more than just a hobby product.

Earlier we reported that the new Apple TV will run on iOS and will feature support for apps and full TV rentals. Adding more to that pool, folks at Engadget seem to believe that the new Apple TV will be renamed to iTV and will be offered at a base price of $99.
The guts of the iTV will be similar to the iPhone 4 (the A4 chip and 16 Giga storage) and it may also come integrated with iTunes Live, Apple's cloud streaming service. The big shocker for all of us is that the iTV won't be capable of running full HD 1080p videos unlike the current Apple TV.
Of course, observing the Apple device ecosystem it's obvious that an app store for the iTV is imminent but it's still a mystery whether it will be exclusive to iTV users or will it contain cross-platform apps between the iPhone/iPad etc.
Plus $99 for a device seems to be good to be true, specially in case of Apple? Meh!
