iPad Mini – The Apple Tablet that Only Exists in Utopia

I love rumors, I love tech gossip and I love all forms of scuttlebutt but a recent report by DigiTimes about a so-called upcoming tablet device by Apple, or dare I call it the iPad Mini, has taken my mind into a very different dimension.

It isn't the idea that annoys me, because rumors about an iPad Mini coming in 2011 have been there for long, rather it's actually the statement presented by DigiTimes about this imaginary product that makes me uncomfortable. According to DigiTimes:

Sources from upstream component makers believe the device [the Samsung Galaxy Tab] is aiming to compete against Apple’s reportedly upcoming 7-inch iPad.

This statement has only one main flaw. The "upstream component makers" believe in something that actually doesn't exist and never will.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will target the current 9.7 inch iPad and there is not even the slightest hint or chance that Apple will ever plan to release another iOS capable mobile device. For now, that category is pretty saturated with the iPhone as a phone, the iPod Touch as a multimedia portable device and the iPad as multimedia consumption and e-reading tablet.

Good luck with something that actually hijacks the purpose of one of these devices and tries to disturb the iOS ecosystem. Only available in Utopia.
