Ever thought where that epic Android logo came from? Well, it turns out that it was copied, or let's just say inspired by a character from a third-rate Gauntlet game from the Atari Lynx (that's an actual game console, in case you're wondering).

Discovered first by Engadget, this is a bit surprising. The similarity is undoubtedly there. Dotted eyes? Check. Antennae? Check. Line separating face/body? Check. Same name? CHECK, MATE!
Gauntlet: The Third Encounter was an arcade-style action game developed by Atari for their handheld console Lynx. It was a rather mediocre game and no really cared for it until today when it just so turns out that Google's Android OS has a logo eerily similar to the character (ironically named) Android.
With so many things in common, I think it will be rather difficult for Google to defend itself in this case. Although I beg to ask the question: does it really matter? In their post on this news, Redmond Pie states:
Android is already considered as a rip-off of iOS by many Apple fans and this will only add more salt to the wounds. It would be a big disappointment for all the Android lovers out there if there is any truth to this news.
Really? Does a logo really matter this much? Android lovers will continue using Flash on their phones if there is truth to this news. And Android being called a rip-off of Apple's iOS is like saying Windows is a rip-off of Mac OS just because they do the same thing: power computers.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on this. No one can deny that the two Androids up there are alike, but...how much does this really matter? It might matter to Google and Atari, but for me and you, mehhh!
