Along with the revealing of entirely new iPod line at their September 1 event, Apple also announced the iTunes 10 with the new highly-controversial logo. People really didn't like the new logo since it ditched the classic CD-with-a-hovering-blue-music-note for a blue background and black music note. Jobs said that Apple has decided to change the logo since physical CD sales will soon be surpassed by iTunes digital music sales.

Joshua Kopac who handles design for ValuLeads (an advertising firm) emailed Jobzilla commenting about the new iTunes icon:
Steve,
Enjoyed the presentation today. But … this new iTunes logo really sucks. You’re taking 10+ years of instant product recognition and replacing it with an unknown. Let’s both cross our fingers on this….

And in true Apple fashion, came Jobs short and to-the-point reply:
We disagree.

I personally don't like the new logo either. iTunes 10 has no blues or blacks in its interface and the logo just doesn't match with the overall UI (the old one did).
TechCrunch is currently holding a competition of sorts where they'll be posting the best logos submitted by TC readers on their website for Apple to see. And if you go over to Dribble, you'll actually see some very pretty logos.
Oh and one more thing...
