Facebook Places which was announced by Facebook last month and was exclusive to US only has now gone live in the UK.

Facebook Places which seems more like Foursquare allows users to check - in at restaurants, bars and and allows them to interact with other social networking members present near the checked-in spot, provided they are checked in to that very location as well.
Facebook places manager Michael Sharon had this to say about Facebook Places and what led to the concept:
Our products are modelled on how people are already using the site… We realised people were already posting where they were and who they were with every day.
With Facebook Places, the social networking giants wants to achieve three key goals:
- Allow people to share their location and their fellow companions.
- Find Friends who are present at that spot as well as meet new contacts present there.
- Discover new places.
The service will be rolled out on a gradual basis so you might want to wait for some time if the social facet of the giant social network is not accessible to you.
