Rumor: New iPad coming in Q1 2011

According to Digitimes which is the king of gadget rumors with a good track record, Apple is likely to roll out the next generation of iPad somewhere during the first quarter of 2011.

Apple is known to roll out multiple iterations of its products. iPhone and iPod Touch are the primary examples so it is just a continuation of a successful trend with the revenue generating iPad.

Previous rumors have indicated that the new iPad  will be getting a smaller sized screen possibly to compete with e-readers such as Amazon Kindle. But according to the latest speculation from Digitimes, iPad will retain the same screen size of 9.7 inch with the exception of the screen being ultra-thin and light weighted.

Even though the rumor doesn't mention anything on the lines of the new iPad getting a camera. I won't be surprised if it ends up getting one or may be two with one for the rear end and one for the front side which will of course supplement Apple's open source video chat protocol, FaceTime.

As with any rumor we need to ask ourselves are we onto something real? Considering Apple's approach of taking a 12 month gap before rolling out a revised version of iDevice, we might see the light weighted iPad arrive in the first three months of 2011.
