Google has rolled out an update for its Gmail app for Android. The latest update brings a handful of new features with the spotlight going to the Priority inbox and of course the app updates not being tied to Android version releases anymore.

There are two reasons to be excited about this new app. First Gmail for Android is now a standalone app which means gone are the days where you were required to upgrade your Android firmware in order to get new Gmail features and bug fixes. Secondly, the Android friendly Gmail has been blessed with the new and exciting priority inbox feature, the limited version of the feature that is. The other notable features that this update has in store for you include:
- Important message actions keep themselves sticked to the top of the screen.
- Show quoted text allows you to view previous and lengthy email conversations or should I say threaded conversations.
So what are the pre-requisites to get your hands on this excitement filled Gmail for Android update? Here's the official answer:
The Gmail update requires Froyo (Android version 2.2), so it’s available if you have a Nexus One, HTC EVO, Motorola Droid 2 or Motorola Droid. (Not sure if your device is running Android version 2.2? Check here.)
