Last time we reported on iPhone 4 progress in China , we told you that it was beyond Apple’s expectation. Well here is a surprise filled news update for you - the iPhone 4 has been such a huge hit that Apple has run out of iPhone 4 units for its Chinese consumers.

Unicom, the iPhone carrier in China has received more than 200,000 pre-orders for  the stainless steel phone since 17th Septembers. The telecom operators have sold more than 60,000 iPhone 4 units since the FaceTime enabled smartphone hit Apple Retail Stores.

From the above unofficial figures it is pretty clear that Apple played its card smartly. Unlike iPhone 3GS which took 2 years and 4 months to land in the large smartphone consumer market, the Cupertinos unleashed it 3 months after introducing it in USA.

This news as one can imagine will have the Cupertinos  excited and ecstatic but being a responsible company, Steve Jobs and co will be making every effort to ensure that the next iPhone 4 shipment lands as early as possible in the land of Great China Wall as confirmed by WSJ:

An Apple spokeswoman said more iPhones will be available soon and that customers should check online or with local stores regarding availability.

A friend of mine was in China and he said that there were thousands of customers in the line. He was one of the people who doesn’t get the iPhone 4. Apple should always expect the unexpected.
