Yahoo prepping a FaceTime killer

If you follow Apple closely, then you would have realized that Apple has used FaceTime as one of the primary selling and marketing points for the iPhone 4 which according to me is a bit too much. Anyhow, here is what we have  to share with you  - Yahoo is planning of introducing its very own FaceTime like feature for the stainless steel phone owners.

This video chat feature as many of you would have guessed it will be introduced via an update to the Yahoo Messenger for iPhone. This interesting piece of information was revealed or should I say slipped out by David Katz, Yahoo’s VP of Mobile for the Americas region, while talking with Reuters.

Here’s the killer deal, Yahoo’s video chat won’t be limited to WiFi only. Yahoo Messenger for iPhone will let you do video calls over 3G as well something which the FaceTime currently doesn’t support. Here's the killer deal, the very same app will let you talk with PCs and Macs running the desktop edition of Yahoo Messenger.

Yahoo's plan of introducing stand-alone video chat apps for the App Store should come as no surprise. Why? If you remember, earlier in the week T-Mobile announced its plans of bringing video calling option to its Android lineup of phones. On top of that Fring and Tango are the other entrants into the video chat app domain.
