Google Latitude, which was initially a web app, is now finally available for download via the iTunes App Store. The app, Google Latitude for iPhone to be exact, caused quite a scene last week when it accidentally went live in Japan's App Store only to be pulled rather hastily. However, now this App has finally been made public and is available for download. And oh, did we mention that Latitude is the service which lets users share their locations with people they want to, while allowing them to view that very location on a map?

The iTunes App Store description of Google Latitude for iPhone goes like:

With Google Latitude, see where your friends are right now. Latitude lets you stay in touch with your friends and family by making it easy to share where you are and see each other on a map.

So obviously, it is not very hard to actually figure out what this app does, and majority of the iPhone users would most definitely already know what Latitude is all about. What’s exciting about Google Latitude for iPhone Version 2.0.0.346, is the fact that it capitalizes on the ability that the iOS 4 and above of running the app in the background. Meaning that regardless of the fact that a user has the closed down the app or the screen of the device is turned off; Google Latitude for iPhone will carry on updating the user’s location in the background. A must have feature for all location sharing buffs.
