We’ve seen Android phones as a tough contender up against the Apple iPhone, and frankly, it seems to be the only mobile platform while has presented a direct clash with the iOS platform in such an amazingly short span of time. We’ve been covering Android related news in the past and those trends show that general people and developers alike are shifting their focus towards the Android platform, considering the fact that we are going to see a revamped Android Market soon. So whenever it comes down to mobile OS stats, the Android platform can be seen advancing at a steady pace.
Even though iOS devices altogether stay ahead of Android boasting devices in the top 30 mobile devices list, when it comes to smartphones only, we can clearly see that Android has definitely taken the lead ahead of its competitors. Mobile ad shop Millennial Media collected data which shows that iOS and Android devices went head to head for total number of impressions in November, with each operating system obtaining exactly 38% of the month’s mobile impressions.
Nevertheless, when these top 30 devices are compared altogether, we see that Apple takes that bait when it comes to categories based on a particular operating system, in its case, the iOS. However, when only the smartphones share in the market is considered, Android seems to attain the top spot due to a number of factors which contribute to its popularity, such as its “open-ness” as compared to the iOS.
So it all boils down to the fact that no matter Apple’s iOS currently leads the market as a whole, it can not be denied that Android is catching up pretty fast and just might prove to dominate the share that the iOS has. Let us see what the future holds for the Android platform in general.
