We had reported about the massive outage that Skype is still trying hard to recover from, and the good part is that it is indeed recovering, as Skype CEO Tony Bates claims that between 16 and 17 million Skype users are now able to use the service just like before, and this number is roughly 90% of the people on Skype, and by the looks of it, the recovery process is going good.

Skype CEO Tony Bates says:

We are bringing folks back on in a controlled manner

Getting Skype back up online completely would most definitely be Tony Bates top priority right now in order to make sure that Skype doesn’t lose out on its users, and as a compensation to this ordeal, the CEO has publicly apologized for the downtime and has said that he will offer users some credits, it is although expected that credits may only go to paying customers who already have SkypeOut accounts.

The company tends to explain in its latest blog post:

We now understand the cause of the problem and we believe it was not caused by a malicious attack. But, we are still doing a full analysis and we will provide an in-depth post-mortem.

Nothing can make up for the missed experiences, but we’re going to be sending our Pay As You Go and Pre-Pay users a Skype Credit voucher via email. The voucher can be used to give you approximately 30 minutes of free calling to landlines anywhere in the world.*

For our active subscribers, we will credit you with a week’s extra subscription service
