At Christmas last year, Foodspotting had unleashed the first test build of their app to a select group of iPhone users. This year, they’re doing a much bigger and better release. Foodspotting has finally released its app for Android, and the best part is that the beta is available for everyone having an Android device.

The basic function of Foodspotting is to allow users to take pictures of food that they love and share it with their friends having similar interests in delectable culinary delights, and now, the fun is not only limited to the iPhone, as the Android app has been launched. Android users have for long waited for this app, however the small team of Foodspotting was pretty preoccupied with developing the iPhone version and working on their website. However, earlier this year in August, Foodspotting had said that the work on an Android app had begun, which has now finally materialized.

The Android app still lacks some features that its iPhone counterpart has, most importantly, the in-app social features. Nevertheless, the app looks nice and fulfills the main purpose of Foodspotting that is obviously spotting great food. Users can also syndicate out their food pictures to Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare as well.

However, it should be kept in mind that this is still the beta version of the app, and has not been formally launched on the Market yet; users wishing to download the Foodspotting app on their Android devices will have to enable the ability to run non-Market apps, and can get the app by clicking here from their Android device.

The Foodspotting app release for Android comes spot on Christmas, as many people are bound to be out and about enjoying their favorite food, and the app will now enable them to share their latest food discoveries with their friends.
