Kindle is one product that has by far kept Amazon at the forefront of e-readers or e-reading apps for various mobile platforms, may it be the Kindle hardware or Kindle apps. So when Apple finally launched the long awaited Mac App Store, there was no way that Kindle would have been forgotten. The Kindle App is now available for download in the Mac App Store, and is already the fifth most downloaded free app.

With Kindle, it seems like Amazon is pursuing a “buy Once, Read Anywhere” strategy, meaning that once a user downloads a Kindle book, they should be able to continue reading it across any device that they have, be it the Kindle hardware itself, or via apps for the iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone 7, Windows PC and now the Mac. Amazon had already launched Kindle for Mac last March; however this version is distributed through the Mac App Store which is part of the latest update to the Mac OS X.

Interestingly enough, the Kindle apps on the iPhone and iPad are also going to be updated allowing users to access millions of free books, while enjoying better image zoom, and the ability to download books in the background, if they’re doing something else on their device.

So head on down to the Mac App Store, download the Kindle for Mac app and do let us know in your comments what you think about it.
