In what seems to be quite an interesting move, Disney has taken an unusual direction in Japan where it is launching its own smartphone, which will be powered by Android and not the iOS, considering the fact that Apple CEO Steve Jobs has presence on the board of directors of Disney.
Essentially, this phone is going to be a re-badging of the Sharp Galapagos 003SH, the defining feature of which is its inclusion of glasses-free 3D on its 3.8-inch display. The phone will be quite Disney-fied as owners will get their own Disney e-mail address, exclusive content and the optional six custom cases themed primarily around famous Disney characters.
It has been said that sales of this phone will start sometime next month and the price has not been disclosed as yet, regardless of that, this phone will only be available to potential customers in Japan, whereas the Sharp Galapagos 003SH will reach the US in its true form later this year.
It seems like Apple is least concerned about the launch of an Android powered phone by Disney, considering the fact that the iPhone sales are really concrete in Japan.
