According to a report published on Mashable, IBM and ARM have announced that the two companies will be partnering on advanced semiconductor technologies that will be designed specifically to power the next generation of mobile gadgets. This announcement follows Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s announcement at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in Las Vegas where he announced that Windows 8 will support ARM-based devices.

IBM and ARM aim to create 14nm chips that will be even more suited for better power management, longer battery life and better multimedia support altogether, and this is not the first time that both of these companies have partnered up.
ARM is going to power the processor IP which will be tuned to IBM’s manufacturing processes, for ARM, this partnership is a significant one as this company licenses the technology used in virtually every mobile device on the market.
Nevertheless, the press release doesn’t reveal any details on when the market will see what these two companies churn out together, but it can be said that the technology will definitely be powering majority of the devices in the future.
