9to5mac reports that Apple has rejected Sony’s ‘Sony Reader’ ebook app for addition in the iOS App Store. Sony Reader ebook app in essence is akin to Apple’s native iBooks and Amazon Kindle apps which allow users to purchase and read books in the app. Hit the break for more.

Apple says they rejected the application on the premise that the company is not allowing developers to sell content within their applications, without going through the App Store’s actual in-app-purchase feature. This change may hint at the launch of Apple’s rumored app subscription service.
However it can not be said for sure as of now whether or not Apple plans to pull out applications like the Amazon Kindle app from the iTunes App Store, but if they did, there obviously would be a bad reaction from successful developers like Amazon.
Nevertheless, Apple may include the Sony Reader ebook app in the App Store if sony edits it to work with Apple’s supposed new app-subscription service.
