While the cloud based, edge to edge touchscreen and "Squeeze" to close apps feature touting Apple iPhone Nano may seem desirable for many, The New York Times however begs to differ by saying that the Cupertinos are certainly not working on a smaller iPhone, contradicting an earlier report by the WSJ.

Another person who is in direct contact with Apple also said that the company would not make a smaller iPhone at this time, in part because a smaller device would not necessarily be much cheaper to manufacture and because it would be more difficult to operate

The NYT also mentions that Apple’s engineers are currently focused on finishing the iPhone 5, which is somehow going to be similar to the iPhone 4 however rumor has it that Apple may increase the screen size on the iPhone from 3.5-inch to 4-inch, and to roll it out by this summer. However, they do suggest Apple might release a cheaper device.

Although the innards of the phone, including memory size or camera quality, could change to offer a less expensive model, the size of the device would not vary

So what this report essentially means ladies and gentlemen, is the fact that cheaper doesn't always mean smaller. In this particular case, yes Apple may release a cheaper iPhone in the near future, however that would lack on certain things as compared to the full price version, but its not necessary that a cheap iPhone has to be the much hyped Apple iPhone Nano.
