Easily Update Cydia In Background On iPhone, iPad & iPod touch

For those of you who, like me, are quite irritated by the fact that Cydia doesn’t support native multitasking / backgrounding feature that were introduced last year in iOS 4.x as well as the much annoying “Reloading Data” screens and automatic installation of Cydia updates whenever you fire up Cydia, iDB has now reported a solution. The solution will allow you to actually update the cache that Cydia uses, while eliminating the need to start the actual app itself, by using a few new additions that have just gone live in Cydia. Read on below, to find out more.

Primarily, this is done through some SBSettings toggles which will let you update Cydia in the background while you keep on working on your device, whether its replying to texts or important email. You can easily switch back to it once it has completed downloading all the updates.

Remember: First install SBSettings from Cydia before installing the toggles mentioned below.

Debian Updater for SBSettings:

This toggle features a Status Bar icon that lets you know when its running. If it finds any updates, you will see a separate Status Bar icon. It takes a few moments to run, which is a good sign that it actually works. When you load up Cydia, you will notice that it does not need to update.

Aptupdate for SBSettings:

This toggle shall upgrade and update your Apt cache and packages seamlessly in the background. All of this is done by simply clicking one button. You can switch back to the toggle to find out if Cydia has been updated.

Obviously, for this to work you need to have a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
