Minutes earlier we reported that Apple is planning to introduce a new high speed connection technology soon. Now, Macrumors thinks that this Light Peak based new Apple high speed connection technology can explain some of the rumors we've previously been hearing about the Apple iPad 2. Details on that, after the break.

If you remember, images of an iPad 2 case circulated around the internet which hinted at an SD card slot and Mini DisplayPort Recesses, while other critics have believed that the "mystery port" in the iPad 2 is for something else. Could that be a port for the Light Peak based new high speed connection technology from Apple?
Light Peak prototypes have been using hybrid USB 3 connector connectors that might easily be confused for USB. The exact connector for Light Peak hasn't been described, but it may be close enough to USB to be a case of mistaken identity in the early iPad 2 rumors. The opening for the port may be a bit small for a full-sized USB connector, though it seems feasible that the Light Peak could also adopt a mini USB style form factor as well.
However it should be kept in mind that this is purely a speculation as of now, and once again, we can not truly believe in anything that comes up on the internet regarding the iPad 2 until there is official word from Apple. Also, for Apple to add a Light Peak connector alongside the standard dock connector on the iPad 2 seems a bit inelegant.
Let us see what Apple comes up with this time. Stay tuned as we shall definitely report once we hear more about the Apple iPad 2.
