Earlier today, iH8snow released Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 to fix iPod 4G iBooty issues on iOS 4.3 tethered jailbreak. Keeping that in mind, and the fact that iOS 4.3 jailbreak procedure is much sought after, here's a tutorial that will show you the procedure for jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod touch, running iOS 4.3 using Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3.

Step 1: Gather all required pre-requisites for jailbreaking iOS 4.3 with Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 for Windows

Download Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 for Windows

Download iOS 4.3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Download iTunes 10.2.1

Step 2: Start Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 and click on the blue colored next arrow to proceed.

Step 3: Click the “Browse” button to select iOS 4.3.ipsw file for your iOS device

Step 4: Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 now begins identifying iOS 4.3.ipsw file. Once the .ipsw has been identified, click on the blue colored next arrow to proceed.

Step 5: To start creating your custom iOS 4.3 firmware, select the “Expert Mode”, followed by “Build IPSW” option.

Remember: If you rely on an unlock for iPhone, proceed further by selecting “Baseband Preservation Mode” option instead of “Expert Mode” in order to prevent your iPhone baseband from upgrading.

The custom firmware takes time to cook, in the meantime you can play Pac Man on Sn0wbreeze

Step 6: Once the custom firmware has been cooked, Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 will display the following “Done!” message

Step 7: Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 will now instruct you on how to enter DFU mode. It is likely that Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 may crash or become not responding after it has successfully cooked the custom iOS 4.3 ipsw. However, there's nothing to worry about. You can download iREB RC4 to put your device in DFU mode. The procedure of putting your device in DFU is same across both tools.

  • First, Hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds
  • Then, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for another 10 seconds
  • The device will now be in DFU mode

After the device is successfully in DFU mode, Sn0wbreeze or iREB RC4, depending upon what you're using, will display the following message

To Restore iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Using iTunes

Step 8: Fire up iTunes and click on your iOS device icon. Don’t click on “Update” or “Check for Update,” press and hold the “Shift” key and click on “Restore”

iTunes will now prompt you to select the location of the custom iOS 4.3 firmware file, select the custom .ipsw that you’ve just created and hit “Open”

Step 9: Let iTunes work. A number of automated steps will be done, which call for you to wait patiently, because iTunes is installing custom iOS 4.3 on your device. A progress bas indicating installation progress will be displaying on your device screen. Once the installation is finished, your device is going to be jailbroken, albeit tethered, on iOS 4.3

To boot your device in Tethered Mode

Because there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3, the device will have to be booted in tethered state. We will use a utility called iBooty for this purpose.

Step 10: Start iBooty for Windows. From the dropdown menu, select your iOS device. You’ll find iBooty for iOS 4.3 extracted on the desktop once you’ve run Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3

Step 11: Click “Start” and follow the onscreen instructions to put your device in DFU mode

  • First, Hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds
  • Then, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for another 10 seconds
  • The device will now be in DFU mode

Step 12: iBooty will start working its magic once the device is in DFU mode. After a while, your iOS 4.3 jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be booted in tethered jailbreak mode.

That’s just about it. Let us know in the comments if you face any difficulties in jailbreaking iOS 4.3 with Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3.

It does work for 4th Gen. iPod touch. It was used for this tutorial. iBooty v2.1 worked perfectly. Try reinstalling it.

      • http://twitter.com/adnanfarooqui Adnan Farooqui

Use iBooty 2.1. This is a tethered jailbreak, it requires you to boot tethered every time you reboot your iDevice.

change the ibooty version. i have same prob.

I had successfully tethered after jailbreak, but I do not have 3G network. May I know what is wrong?

    • http://twitter.com/adnanfarooqui Adnan Farooqui

Do you rely on a software unlock for your iPhone?

      • http://twitter.com/darytas robin

yes, we do. i have exactly the same problem. itunes cannot connect (session cannot be started or something), i have no 3G network (icon is there but no connection) and stuff. i tried stockify and using SAM, but all i get is “Stockification Failure” and it doesnt work, so I guess it’s not 4.3 ready yet (?). you have an idea how to fix that?

      • http://twitter.com/adnanfarooqui Adnan Farooqui

iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS? Baseband?

      • Simon

Same problem here. Jailbreak works, simlock is down, but 3g doesn’t work and I can restore old data from itunes(archive session couldn’t be started), or sync apps trough itunes (it tells me that my software is too old). I own 3GS, baseband 6.15.00. So basically this jailbreak is useless in that case :( . I can’t get back to older software unfortunately. I have found many similar problems on google, but no solution so far.

  • Karetta

is it true that the iphone 3Gs 4.3 with baseband 05.16.01 can not be unlocked yet? i managed to jailbreak it but i can not unlock it. any suggestions on what unlock technique might be possible…if there is any….

    • http://twitter.com/adnanfarooqui Adnan Farooqui

There’s a solution known as the iPad baseband hack. You update your baseband to 6.15.00 from where it is easily unlockable using ultrasn0w. You can find the tutorial to unlock iOS 4.3 using sn0wbreeze 2.3b4 on the site.
