Apple released iOS 4.3 at the iPad 2 launch event back on March 2. While it hasn't been long since iOS 4.3 is available for download, BGR, which happens to have a good track record when it comes to this, says that Apple is planning iOS 4.3.1 release within the next one or two weeks in order to patch the vulnerability capitalizing on which it is possible to jailbreak iPad 2.

iOS 4.3.1 Release

Amongst various bug fixes, iOS 4.3.1 will bring the following changes:

  • Baseband updates for the 3GS and iPad (original)
  • Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem
  • Fixed problem with NTLM authentication in apps and on websites
  • Fixed issue with the Springboard and 3rd party apps not recgonizing the gyroscope on the iPad 2
  • Fixed iPad 2 jailbreak vulnerability

Since iOS 4.3 release, all devices are safe from hackers until they learn how to bypass ASLR or Address Space Layout Randomization which Apple integrated in iOS 4.3. The vulnerability due to which it was possible for hackers to hack iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1 at the annual Pwn2Own competition exists in the Apple iPad 2 as well, but ASLR saves the day. Most likely, Apple will patch this vulnerability too in iOS 4.3.1 release.

Apple is going to release iOS 4.3.1 in the next one or two weeks. No final words as yet on whether or not iOS 4.3.1 will push Verizon iPhone 4 owners up to the updated 4.3.x firmware.
