Nokia announced the Nokia Booklet 3G mini-laptop almost a week ago, and today at the Nokia World 09, the detailed specifications of the device along with its pricing have been announced by Nokia.

As much as you would love the design and specifications of this little guy, the pricing is something that would make you pretend that you change your plans (in case you even thought of buying one in the first place).

First the specifications in detail:

CPU and OS: Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz, Windows 7.

Display size: 10.1 inch, 1280×720 pixels, Glass window.

Battery Life: 16 cell battery with 12 hours of full-charged life.

Memory and Storage: 1GB DDR2 RAM with 120GB HDD.

Design and Color: Comes in three colors namely Black, White and Azure.

Connectivity: In-built WLan, also supports 3G data connections.

Nokia Services: Ovi Suite 2.0, Nokia Music for PC, Ovi Maps and Social Hub.

Other: GPS, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera with microphone and Accelerometer.

As for the pricing, the Nokia Booklet 3G will cost around at 575 Euros which makes it equal to $820 USD approximately. Perhaps the price is the actual reason why Nokia doesn't want to label it as a Netbook.

Earlier there have been quite a few rumors about Nokia entering the Netbook market but until now, the debate was nothing more than a piece of wind-talk. However, this morning Nokia announced that it will soon be shipping a new product which it calls as the Nokia Booklet 3G and from what it looks like, its more than just a Netbook.

Interestingly! Nokia itself is hesitating to brand this machine as a Netbook and goes on by calling it as a mini-laptop. Though we definitely would like to support Nokia on this as this device is more powerful and efficient than a regular netbook, even though it bears the guts of an Intel Atom processor which is now a standard for Netbook devices.

Below are some of the detailed features of the Nokia Booklet 3G.

Intel Atom Processor on the back-end.

A Windows-based machine running Windows 7.

Glass display of 10.1 inches with HD display.

Battery life up to 12-hours.

Integrated 3G wireless and WiFi.

A-GPS, webcam, Bluetooth and SD card reader.

So basically you can think of it as something between a smartphone and a laptop, but still its impressive.

No word yet on the price and availability of the device but I guess we will be seeing more of it at Nokia World 09 on September 2nd, along with the detailed specifications and probably even a preview.

A couple of months ago HTC announced a new handset called the Hero. Even though it was powered by Android, it was much different than other Android-powered phones such as the G1 and the HTC Magic in the sense that it wasn't Google-branded and also brought along a new user-experience dubbed as the HTC Sense UI.

Looking at the preview of this beauty, I was much appealed by what it had to offer and also because I got quite bored of using my iPhone, so I went ahead and purchased the HTC Hero. So here comes a detailed review:

The body of the phone is what makes it feel like it has come from heaven. It has a fully teflon-coated back which takes it to the next level of smoothness and gives the bearer a great pleasure in holding this little beauty.

Other noticeable features of the phone include, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a trackball, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, a 5-megapixel camera, an SD slot and a 1350mAh Lithium-ion battery.

Now there might have been some debate over whether the 528Mhz processor on the back-end makes the Hero an underpowered phone but in my say, it does not. The processor is as good, and even better than many other smartphones out in the market so it all comes down to how many apps you plan to run simultaneously. As in case of the iPhone, its only one app at a time so comparing Hero to the iPhone does not do full justice.

The OS on the phone is an up-lifted version of the Android cupcake with new icons, better navigation and the HTC Sense UI which provides up to 7 workspace screens with custom widgets and addons.

Battery-timing of the phone was what impressed me the most. It managed to survive through a complete day with EDGE turned on 24/7 on the backend and trust me on this one, no one uses EDGE like I do.

Notes to Follow

For those planning to buy this phone, here are some notes to follow:

Its Android, so make sure you get a preview of it before going out to purchase an Android phone for the first time.

Don't compare it to the iPhone since both have different classes, one has full multitasking features while the other doesn't.

Speed is not an issue on this phone as the rumors say, its all about how many apps you want to run in the background.

Good news is that HTC will soon be rolling out an update for the Hero that will make its UI even more fast and snappy. I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone who is tired of the iPhone and wants a change, and also to those who want to experience Android for the first time.

There are some reports circulating on the web that iRiver is developing a portable media player which will challenge the most awesome digital media player ever produced, the iPod touch. Named as K2, the gadget is expected to be launched in 2010.

According to a report on an Australian news website, K2 will run on the Android platform. The gadget will have a 3.5 inch touch screen, a built-in browser, wifi, bluetooth, accelerometer and a possible digital TV tuner. K2 is still in its initial phase therefore it is not yet clear that whether the touch screen would fully compat with the human touch or a stylus would be used. The memory capacity of the PMP has also not been revealed.

Though the Portable media player will surely not have the luxury of Apple's app store or the iTunes sync feature but still it would be a great challenge to Apple's iPod touch. Being an android based gadget, K2 will most probably have the access to the android based open source third party software.

The gadget is still a rumor and it is not yet confirmed whether it gets the approval by the company or not. If green-signaled the gadget would bring some sort of competition with Apple which would eventually result in further improvement in the newer version of Apple's iPod Touch.

The Austrailian site also reported that iRiver is also working on an ebook reader and an internet tablet.

For those of you who have been keeping up with the news and announcements related to Crunchpad, the Tablet PC by TechCrunch, well all we can say for now is that it is real and its coming this November.

So what features will the Crunchpad boast of?

For one, its a Tablet PC with a 12-inch screen and will mainly be used for browsing the web and doing web-related tasks. All apps on the Crunchpad will be web-based and we are still unsure if it possesses any media capabilities such as watching movies or listening to music.

It will feature a custom web-kit browser which shall be running over a custom Linux OS. There will be Wi-Fi and 3G access and also one USB port to handle/transfer data to a thumb drive.

Apart from this, there is nothing that the Crunchpad can do so we hardly believe that it will be any match for the supposed Apple Tablet that is to come in September this year. The Crunchpad will be probably priced around $400.

Michael Arrington from TechCrunch will be officially introducing the device at an event somewhere in August.

Rumors regarding the Nokia N97 mini emerged a while ago when a Vodafone forum moderator posted about the existence of such a device. Sadly! he was fired for leaking out such sensitive information, but that only led us to believe that Nokia did have such a device in the works.

And today! a leaked photo of the supposed Nokia N97 mini is what adds more to our speculation about the existence of such a device.

From what we see, it has a smaller touchscreen, a Qwerty keyboard but with a missing D-pad as seen on the original N97. Also the N97 mini is said to have only 8GB of storage memory, whereas the original N97 has 32GB of storage memory.

Though we personally believe that its nothing but an early prototype of the Nokia N97 which could have changed during the design-phase to give out the actual and final device.

Another possibility is that perhaps Nokia wants to repeat its trend by releasing a budget-phone as a supplementary to the original one, like it did with earlier with the Nokia E71. Though we doubt it, as N97 already failed to meet most of the users expectations.

As much as we love the iPhone, we still care much about the Android platform as it is the only OS which is as more powerful and stable as the iPhoneOS and the best part about it is that it also has Multitasking.

So here we have the HTC Click, a supposedly low-end Android device and the second one after HTC Hero to have no Google branding on it.

Less is known about this new Android beauty but from the looks of it, it won't feature a trackball rather a D-pad for navigation and also we see rocker-key arrangement which is also found on the HTC Hero. It will probably also feature the HTC Sense UI found in the HTC Hero and will be released somewhere between September to October this year.

Looking at the device we can assume that HTC plans to sell it as a budget phone as the device does not feature anything unique or extraordinary (or maybe it does, who knows?) but it really pleases us that HTC is making use of Android more on its handsets than Windows Mobile.

It can't be ignored that when Palm announced the WebOS, the official successor to the PalmOS that now comes in the Palm Pre, it did make quite an impact in the industry in terms of being a powerful operating system that could compete with the iPhone OS.

But as Mojo, the Software Development Kit for WebOS, has been released to the public, much of the developers are claiming that WebOS is not meant for Gaming.

Craig A. Hunter seems to one of these developers who claims that Palm Pre does not provide the required environment for developers to build sophisticated apps for the device that are now a days required by smartphone users and can be commonly seen on the iPhone OS. To his concerns, lack of OpenGL access is what's keeping developers to explore more of WebOS in the Gaming area.

This makes us to believe that all future devices from Palm will also not be as sporty in terms of Games as they will also run on the WebOS. Perhaps the limitation to Graphics hardware is what's causing all the issue and Palm may remove this limitation in the future.

As for the iPhone, Gaming has already become one of the its key selling points and if Palm really wants to compete with it, it will have to open doors to allows developers to fully explore the WebOS environment and make Games with rich-graphics.

Palm introduced the Pre, along with the new WebOS, back in January and much like every other tech enthusiast around the globe, we were simply blown away by the brilliant looks, functionality and features that the Pre had to offer.

It is therefore that we have been keeping a close-eye on anything Pre and even though it is not possible for us to write a hands-on review of this device, we are still managing to share everything that we know about the Pre and how it will or will not succeed in the mobile market as compared to the the Highness of phones, the iPhone.

From much of what we have read and seen, the WebOS will be something really to look forward too. Its quite responsive and user-friendly as the iPhoneOS and yes, it does support multi-tasking.

Everything from multimedia, web browsing, photo viewing to contact synchronization seems pretty mature considering that its the first generation of the WebOS and we are sure, it will give a tough competition to the iPhone though the Pre might lag behind in popularity when it comes to availability of more apps but perhaps that gap will eventually be bridged as well.

The Pre is pretty small and also light-weight. Of course it is not possible for us to give out a thought on the feel-of-hand for this phone without actually testing it but from what we assume about it, it will definitely fit in your pockets and still leave room for the other stuff.

As compared to the iPhone, we give the Pre an edge over being light, easy to handle and also being the most suitable candidate for pocket-resting.

Now comes the hardware part, which makes us drown into oceans of disappointment considering the Pre runs on such a brilliant OS.

Palm might believe that it has done a fine job at incorporating a physical keyboard in the device but the fact is that now a days users are more inclined towards using a keyboard that comes with corresponding functions to the apps they use and that can only be done with a virtual keyboard like the iPhone has. Also, the slide-out fashion is kind of getting old and annoying in phones where you have to pop-out a keyboard whenever you need to type something.

Thats all from here. Our verdict believes that the Palm Pre might turn out to be a consumer-friendly device but it will still be hard enough for Pre to surpass the iPhone in terms of features, form and functionality.

Perhaps we will get to see more about the Pre on June 6th. Don't forget to check back for more launch reviews.

A while ago, Michael Arrington from Techncrunch posted an idea on his blog that generated a lot of excitement among the IT crowd.

The idea was to build a Full-touchscreen Tablet computer that would be affordable enough for any average tech enthusiast and would also compete with the industry-leading Tablet devices not only in terms of its affordability, but also its design and usability.

The project is labeled as the CrunchPad and after months of prototype-testing, the device is actually coming to reality and let me tell you honestly, its sleek, its sexy and its brilliant.

From what we assume looking at the launch-prototype of the CrunchPad, it has definitely evolved from a mere touchscreen piece-of-nothing into a full-featured Tablet computer that will be the ultimate requirement for a 24-hour web surfer.

The device basically runs on a light-weight Linux distribution which directly boots into a web-kit based browser which integrates all web services and allows you to surf websites, watch videos and do anything on the Internet.

From where I see it, the launch of the CrunchPad might kick Kindle in the balls as CrunchPad seems to provide more than just e-reading capabilities and probably at a much cheaper price.

The price for the device, along with the complete technical specifcations, will be officially annoucned next month. Go watch a demo of an earlier prototype and decide whether this device will really make a buzz on its launch or not?

From what we have been listening to lately, it is quite significant that HP is interested in making Netbooks based on the mobile OS by Google known as Android but according to a recent report, it seems like HP might not be the only one looking forward to explore the Android OS on Netbooks.

A press-release made by a company named BSquare reveals that it is working on a system to use certain Adobe software on the yet unannounced 'Dell Netbooks running the Google OS'.

Although the press-release was later termed as 'erraneous' by both Dell and BSquare, however the fact that no party denied the content of the press-release gives us a hint that Dell might actually be planning to launch Netbooks running the Android OS soon.

The reason why Android remains an attractive piece of OS for most Netbook makers is because of its ability to run in an environment which is independant of Microsoft and Intel and also because it is absolutely open-source and free.

Exploring the Android OS on Netbooks may help vendors in getting indepence from the Windows-monoply by Microsoft.

Although the news doesn't come on a scale of 100% authenticity but from what it looks like, the Palm Pre shall be launched publicly on 5th June during a Palm event.

The news comes through a tipster on Boy Genius Report who happens to have received an internal Palm memo regarding some meetings that will take place in early June and one of those meetings is labeled as the 'Launch!'.

Given that a lot of accessories for the Palm Pre have already started to show up on Best Buy may refer to the fact that the launch date news is actually true but then again, nothing can be said on a confirmed basis.

Palm Pre is the only phone after the iPhone that is being looked forward by a whole new cult of touchscreen lovers out there so it is expected that its launch will make a big mark though I believe that Palm has already generated a lot of buzz for the Pre and shouldn't really wait long to release the phone as that might end up in killing user's expectations for the Pre.

So ready for the Pre are you?

For long have we been listening to rumors about Android Netbooks being in the making but apart from all those too-good-to-be-true concepts and mockups, none actually ever managed to come to the market.

However, a Chinese company called Skytone wants to take the lead in this by releasing the first ever Android Netbook to the masses.

Even though the news is big as no Android Netbook was expected to be released in the market by end of this year, still the specifications of the device by Skytone doesn't put as at wonders.

As listed, the Netbook is powered by the Google Androind OS but a closer look at the hardware specifications indicates that this little guy is not even as powerful as an Android cellphone. The CPU is a slow 533MHz ARM-11 with only 128MB of RAM and 1GB of storage space (up to 4GB optional).

There seems to be three USB ports with an SD card along with WiFi and Ethernet and a optional Webcam.

The 7 inch display is able to spin around its base making it more like a Tablet and also the Netbooks boasts to have gaming controls on either side of its display which are plain useless for someone who actually plans to use the Netbook for Internet and work.

A clear say on the price is nowhere to be found, though it is speculated that this Android Netbook might costs anything between $100 to $250. Follow on to the product page for more information.

Previously, only Sony has been able to claim of such a netbook that is slim enough to fit in the back pocket i.e. Sony Vaio P but many doubted the claim as the Sony Vaio P is not that slim in shape. (See the ad for Sony Vaio P below and decide for yourself)

However, Lenovo plans to give buyers the ultimate real expeirence when it comes to sticking the notebook in their pockets. Few photos of the product can be seen below which actually originated at the Lenovo Flickr Photos stream.

Later this January, UzEE shared some leaked photos of a new Android phone which supposedly was known as the G2 but as HTC unrolls more of its new phones at the Mobile World Congress 09 today, we realize that it might actually be the HTC Magic.

The HTC Magic is an Android-powered phone, just like the G1, except for that it doesn't come with a physical keyboard. It consists of a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with GPS, 3.2 megapixel camera (with no flash) and a G1 style trackball. Here is an official product image of the HTC Magic.

Also the phone carries a proprietary headphone jack and seems to be coming with Vodafone instead of T-Mobile. Take a look at some of the images of HTC Magic brought to you by Engadget and MobileCrunch.

Its quite slim as compared to the G1 but certainly doesn't win the mobile slimness popularity contest as the iPhone is there to challenge it all along.

The HTC Magic comes with Cupcake (the latest firmware for Android with new features) out-of-the-box which also brings the touchscreen keyboard to the phone. The accelerometer is there to change the orientation of the phone automatically when it is rotated.

It is expected to hit the UK market somewhere near April of this year. However no word on the price has been confirmed yet.

It was long rumored that Nokia would soon launch a cloud service of its own, providing storage and synchronization facilities for Nokia phones along with a whole range of free and paid apps to choose from. At the Mobile World Congress today, the prophecy came true as Nokia officially announced the Ovi Store in their presentation at Barcelona.

Nokia may be far behind in launching the service but it sure did dive head first into the competition with some intuitive features. Nokia plans to unite the services offered under its Ovi platform into an online store service which would include Applications, Games, Music, Maps and most importantly Widgets.

Some features are already functional like the Ovi Music Store and the N-Gage gaming service along with Nokia Maps, but the heart and soul of the new platform would be the App Store putting Ovi in direct competition with Apple's App Store.

What came as a surprise was the fact that Ovi would not only be limited to the Series 60 platform. Rather it would be available as a download on a number of Series 40 devices starting in May. The first Nokia handset to feature Ovi pre-installed would be the flagship N97.

Already behind LG, Samsung and Sony Ericsson in the Mega Pixel race, Nokia is going to unveil a new 8 Mega Pixel device in two days at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Earlier today, Nokia teased us with a photo on the official Nseries site, claiming that it had been taken with a Nokia device at Barcelona.

Click on image to see the full enlarged version (2.7 MB)

The picture seems to be taken from a very high speed device which managed to focus the skater brilliantly even in mid air. The image is a solid 2.7 MB with a 2448 x 3264 resolution. A closer inspection of the image revealed some pretty impressive EXIF data from the meta tags.

Its interesting to note that the equipment maker is indeed Nokia while the device has a 300 DPI Carl Zeiss lens. The shutter speed is quite high, at 1/1000 secs. Whats even more surprising is the fact that the creation software is titled Adobe Photoshop CS3, and the picture is taken on February 17th, 2009 at 9 am.

Now either this device also has the ability to beam back photos in time, or that is the official time for the announcement of the phone. If all this is authentic (Nokia has posted the image of course), then this new device would clearly be aimed for a Q2-Q3 launch, though I doubt it would be a flagship Nseries as the Nokia N97 would take that throne this year.

On an effort to make use of the resources provided by nature, Samsung has recently unveiled a new touchscreen phone called as the Blue Earth.

What makes the Blue Earth so special is that it runs totally on the energy provided by the sun and its body is made totally out of plastic obtained by recycled water bottles. Mostly we have seen such phones in concept earlier but Samsung is planning to finally give this phone a face of reality.

The phone resembles the Palm Pre in design and features a sleek touch-screen on the very front. The back is fully covered with a solar panel which generates the whole power to run the phone and the Blue Earth also claims to have an "eco mode" which when turned on, automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen and turns off the Bluetooth to save power.

A built-in pedometer in the phone keeps you aware of how much CO2 you are saving by walking instead of driving.

Sadly, Samsung has not published any details regaring the OS, hardware or price of the phone. However, stay tuned as more details will be published during Mobile World Congress 09 which starts in a countdown of three days.

Users who have been following me on twitter for quite some time would be aware of the fact that I recently purchased the Google G1 phone on my trip to Dubai, which happens to be the first ever phone being powered by Google Android.

After a series of attempts to hack the phone and activate it with my local carrier, I was finally able to test its features and completely analyze the Android OS. A detailed review of the G1 can be read below.

The Google G1 is basically a combination of two smart technologies one of which is the HTC Dream while the other is Android. HTC Dream is the hardware part of the phone whereas Android is the operating system which runs on it and provides all the functionality to the user.

Android failed to impress me when it comes to the boot timing, just like the iPhone. Symbian has a clear win over this case as the G1 takes approximately three times the time of a Nokia N-series phone to boot itself into operation.

As the phone boots up, the user is presented with a setup wizard to link his/her Google account to the phone to sync contacts, mail and calendar.

Logging into G1 is like stepping into a world of awesomeness with less resources around. Although the features are awesome, the G1 has got a poor battery life and hardly makes out a day without a full recharge.

As for the OS, Android is very responsive and fun to use. I really loved the multitasking features of the phone and the ability to control and navigate through the trackball, instead of just the touchscreen.

The G1 also features a full non-virtual Qwerty keyboard which reveals itself as soon as the screen is slided onto one side. Everytime you have to type something, you have to slide the screen to one side which is actually a big turndown but as the rumors say, a virtual keyboard is on its way in the new firmware codenamed Cupcake for G1.

The 3.2MP camera in G1 has pretty good results but it is unable to record video unless you use a third party app from the Android Marketplace. The browser is quite fast in rendering web pages but still not as good as Safari on iPhone. As for the storage memory of G1, it offers a microSD slot which can go up to 16GB maximum.

I really loved the experience of using Google G1 and am loving it so far. I shall be posting more on some unlocking techniques and firmware updates for the G1.
